Good beginnings... have no endings

About Us

At The Cathedral Preschool, we provide a program that will promote the development of the whole child - emotionally, intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually - in a Christ-centered, nurturing environment. By offering a well-balanced variety of experiences that stimulate creativity and an opportunity for self-exploration, we help children develop skills that enable them to learn and play independently. We also provide a climate that facilitates the development of a healthy self-concept in each child, as well as promotes spontaneous and happy relationships with others.

The vision of The Cathedral Preschool is to provide a program that will foster the development of the whole child: emotionally, intellectually, socially, physically and spiritually by offering each student a well-balanced, age-appropriate curriculum that stimulates creativity, self-exploration, independence and healthy, happy relationships with others.

Our FacultyThe faculty and staff at the Cathedral Preschool have a wealth of experience working with preschoolers. The majority are degreed with a major in education or are college graduates with required continuing education hours.

Many of our teachers have been on staff for more than fifteen years. Their loyalty and commitment to the preschool children, parents, and community are the foundation of The Cathedral Preschool.

The Cathedral Preschool is located in beautiful new facilities at the Cathedral of St. Philip. Teachers engage the children in learning in classrooms that are spacious, bright, and colorful.

Our students regularly attend delightful, preschool-age-appropriate services in the Children's Chapel, located in the heart of the school.

The Cathedral Preschool Library, serving both the Cathedral and the Preschool communities, houses books for young people from preschool age through early elementary level.

The children regularly take part in active physical play in our indoor playspace, which includes a play structure and a tricycle/riding toy track, as well as on our two outdoor playgrounds.

In response to the request of parents who wanted a weekday preschool for their children and the desire of the Dean and Chapter to more fully utilize the Cathedral of St. Philip’s classroom space, a weekday playgroup was established in 1970 by mothers who volunteered to be teachers. The Cathedral Playgroup grew into what is now the Cathedral Preschool - a professionally staffed, highly regarded Atlanta preschool with a waiting list of applicants. The Preschool is accredited by AdvancEd/SACS.

Since its inception, the Cathedral Preschool has had a rewarding, mutually beneficial relationship with the Cathedral of St. Philip. However, the Cathedral Preschool is a separately incorporated parochial entity, and it has its own by-laws and Board of Directors, operates independently, and makes all of its own admissions and operations decisions.

Sacs Accred Seal

The mission of the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) is the improvement of education in the south through accreditation. The arm of the organization under which the preschool falls is the Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (CASI). The purpose of accreditation is to establish a plan of improvement through self evaluation and external review to help advance the level of education. The Cathedral Preschool has been accredited by SACS/CASI since 2008.

Prior to that, our accrediting organization was The National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC).
